Among notable action taken at the Bemidji City Council meeting Monday:

Bemidji Senior Center

Ann Daly with the Senior Center made a presentation to the City Council and asked councilors to consider a monetary donation to help defer operating costs at the Senior Center.

ACTION: Not action was taken. Mayor Richard Lehmann told Daly that the council was set to discuss its moratorium on donations to nonprofits during its Monday work session.

K-A Walleye Classic

Bob Fitzgerald, representing the Kraus-Anderson Walleye Classic, outlined plans for the June 14 event. He requested council approval for allowing the fishing tournament to be held at the Lake Bemidji waterfront and the ability to allow anglers to park their vehicles and boats on city-owned property near the south shore of Lake Bemidji while they attend a meeting at Hampton Inn the afternoon of Friday, June 13.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve.

Birchmont Drive bid

The council considered approval of a bid from Arcon Construction for water and sewer improvements and roadway work for Birchmont Drive. Arcon Construction submitted the low bid from 11 bids received at $4,464,559.20.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve.

Online video project

The council considered a proposal from CGI Communications Inc. that would authorize the company to enhance the city's Web site by adding a video welcome message and community profiles. CGI would attempt to sell advertising to accompany the videos. The company takes all of the risk - there is no cost to the city.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to direct city staff to continue working with CGI toward an agreement.

Closed EDA meeting

Councilors convened as the Bemidji Economic Development Authority following the regular City Council meeting to consider the possible purchase of three other parcels of land in the south shore area.

ACTION: The council authorized City Manager John Chattin to continue negotiating with landowners.
