Among notable action taken at the Bemidji City Council meeting Monday:

Boys & Girls Club

Leonore Potter, the executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area, requested $10,000 in city funds for operational costs.

ACTION: The council voted 5-1 to discuss its moratorium on donations during its April1 4 work session. Councilor Nancy Erickson was opposed.

Sprinkling

The council considered a staff recommendation for sprinkling discounts. Under the current policy, customers must purchase a second water meter that measures the water usage for sprinkling needs and pay for its installation. Staff had recommended maintaining the current policy.

ACTION: The council voted 5-1 to keep the current policy in place. The motion included an option for residents to pay 12 equal payments, interest-free, to the city to cover the cost of the water meter. Councilor Onen Markeson was opposed.

23rd Street Northwest

The council considered the final reading of an ordinance that would amen an uncoded section of the Bemidji City Code that would allow for the vacation of a portion of 23rd Street.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve.

Sixth Street Southeast

The council considered the final reading of an ordinance that would amen an uncoded section of the Bemidji City Code that would allow for the vacation of a portion of Sixth Street Southeast.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve.

Second Street Southwest

The council considered the final reading of an ordinance that would amen an uncoded section of the Bemidji City Code that would allow for the vacation of a portion of Second Street Southwest.

ACTION: The council voted 0-6 toward approval; the vacation was denied.

Present: Onen Markeson, Ward 1; Roger Hellquist, Ward 2; Ron Johnson, Ward 3; Jerry Downs, Ward 4; Nancy Erickson, Ward 5; Barb Meuers; at-large. Absent: Richard Lehmann, mayor.
