Among notable action taken at the Bemidji City Council meeting Monday:

Nymore Days Street Dance

The City Council considered a request to close Central Avenue Southeast from the Corner Bar to an alley past The Garden Grill & Pub, and Second Street Southeast between The Garden Grill & Pub and the Corner Bar on Sept. 7 to allow for a street dance and pig roast. Alcohol will be sold at the event, and wrist bands will be used to indicate whether people are of legal age to drink. The event is planned in tandem with the Bemidji State University football team's annual Shrine Game on Sept. 8.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve.

Menard's store

The City Council considered the development agreement with Menards, Inc.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve.

Bemidji Youth Baseball

The City Council considered a request from Bemidji Youth Baseball to waive $714 in building permit fees for a construction project on the baseball field on the BSU campus on Bemidji Avenue.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to table the request until Monday's work session.

Bemidji Ave. reconstruction

The City Council considered an agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation regarding the 2008 reconstruction of Bemidji Avenue between Third Street and 23rd Street. The city will pay for utility costs and a portion of traffic signal costs.

ACTION: The City Council voted unanimously to approve.

Diamond Point Park

The City Council considered purchasing an irrigation system at Diamond Point Park to reduce maintenance costs. Two bids were received: the one from Lawntech in Fosston was $32,379 and the bid from T&K Outdoors in Bemidji was $29,294.92.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to pay $29,294.92 to T&K Outdoors for the irrigation system.

Elliot Road maintenance

The City Council considered an agreement with northern Township for the maintenance of Elliot Road on the east side of Lake Bemidji. The agreement calls for the city to take care of the road in the summer and the township to maintain the road in the winter.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to approve, but added dates to the agreement. The city will be responsible for maintaining the road May 1 to Oct. 31. Northern Township is set to consider the agreement next week.

Water sprinkling

The City Council discussed ways to encourage the public to water lawns.

ACTION: The council voted unanimously to direct staff to look into the costs associated with using a computer program that would average the water usage from non-summer months. Residents could be charged that average during June, July and August.

Closed meeting

The City Council considered closing the meeting to discuss labor negotiations.

ACTION: The City Council voted unanimously to close the meeting.
