The Bemidji High boys soccer team made hard work of an easy task Tuesday, rolling past mismatched WHA 4-1 at the Middle School field.
The late starting game profited from a cold, cloudless day to finish in daylight.
The closeness of the score did not reflect the difference in play as Bemidji jumped to a quick 3-0 lead before going into a passing drill the rest of the game.
It allowed the Wolves to score a freak goal late in the second half and narrowly miss a second before Bemidji tallied the last goal, to put the game to bed.
It advances Bemidji to a semifinal game tomorrow at 4 against Alexandria, which defeated East Grand Forks 4-0 in its playoff opener.
Bemidji out shot the young Wolves 48-8, playing keep away much of the game with frequent passes in the offensive zone and seldom allowing the losers to get past the mid field line.
Rylee Curb and Max Hazelton, as usual, led the way. Curb fed Hazelton for the first goal, then scored the last three, two on Hazelton feeds. Mike Burns gained the assist on his second tally.
Bemidji missed a three goal barrage in the opening minute when goalie Orion Immomen rejected the second between two that grazed the two goal posts and bounced away.
But at 1:19, Curb's feed found Hazelton alone near the goal for a 10 yarder into a near open net.
Just 31 seconds later it was Hazelton's turn to feed Curb for a high loft into the upper left corner from 20 yards away.
Bemidji continued the bombardment for another seven minutes before Curb connected again, taking Burns' lead pass from the left side for a 15 yarder unmarked.
Bemidji continued to assault the goal but was unable to connect again as it piled up a 20- 2 halftime shots bulge.
But Walker would not go away, packing the box and keeping Bemidji shooting from mid to long range most of the second half.
It began causing worries about the team's inability to put the game away.
And they became more serious at 60:21 when Austin Dennis launched a long range shot that Kevin Larson appeared to have under control, only to fumble the ball which rolled underneath him just over the goal line for Wolves only scores.
He atoned for this mistake at the 67.30 mark with a leaping save of another apparent goal, deflecting it over the cross bar at the right corner.
Bemidji gave him more breathing room three minutes later when Curb dribbled in from the right side, made a great deke at the crease and tucked the ball behind Immomen for the final score
The Walker sophomore ended with 14 stops. Larson had only four.
Bemidji will take an 11-4-2 record into tomorrow's game. It did not face third seeded Alex this year but beat sixth ranked East Side 3-2 and tied it 2-2 in two hard fought games.
Walker ended its season winless.
