When the Bemidji boys golf team played earlier this spring at the Wildflower course in Detroit Lakes the Lumberjacks finished at 345. Saturday in the second round of the Detroit Lakes Invitational BHS fashioned a 316 and that improvement helped the Jacks place sixth in the 10-team field with a two-day total of 306-316-622.

Friday's opening round was held at Longbow near Walker.

"We continue to improve," said BHS coach Seth Knudson. "The kids are working hard and that is all a coach can ask. We have a little work to do before sections and we'll continue to try and improve our scores this week."

Bemidji will head to Greystone Golf Course near Sauk Centre twice this week in preparation for the section meet which will be played at that course. Tuesday the Lumberjacks will join Moorhead and Fergus Falls for a triangular and Thursday they will participate in the Melrose Invitational at Greystone.

Moorhead appears to be the team to beat in the section and over the weekend the Spuds took the Detroit Lakes Invitational title. Moorhead shot 291 at Longbow and 295 Saturday at Wildflower for a 36-hole total of 586.

West Fargo was second at 591, Fargo South third at 602, St. Cloud Cathedral fourth with 609 and Detroit Lakes fifth with 610.

The medalists were Ben Welle of Moorhead and Bill Carlson of Fargo South as each shot 141 over the two-day tournament.

Pacing Bemidji with 155s were Max Hazelton and Kaleb Hanson. Hazelton shot 79 at Longbow and 76 at Wildflower while Hanson's two rounds were 75 and 80.

Trey Dale finished 77-80-157, Jordan Manick 75-83-158, Kodi Craft 80-80-160 and Elliot Leinen 82-83-165.
