Bemidji boys golf team shoots 316 at Longbow
WALKER — The Bemidji High School boys golf team continued its improved play Friday as the Lumberjacks shot 316 at Longbow Golf Course in the first of two meets hosted by Detroit Lakes.
Today the Lumberjacks and the rest of the field will conclude the 36-hole tournament at Headwaters Golf Course near Park Rapids.
“I think Longbow is an easier track than some of the courses we have been playing but we shot well,” said BHS coach Seth Knudson. “Our goal was to be in the last group on Saturday and by finishing fourth we accomplished that goal.”
Detroit Lakes shot 299 and will own a seven-shot lead over Moorhead when the final 18 holes are played today. Fargo Davies is third at 312 and the Lumberjacks are fourth at 316.
Fargo Shanley holds fifth, one shot behind Bemidji.
Friday’s meet was the fourth competition for the Jacks this spring and they have lowered their score each time. On Thursday BHS carded a 323 at St. Cloud and Friday’s score trimmed seven shots off that effort.
“I’m happy that we’ve gotten better each meet and Friday’s round was a significant jump,” Knudson said.
Elliot Leinen paced Bemidji with a 76 and Matt Gregg contributed a 77. Sam Starkey shot 81, Sam Bruestle 82, Isaac Bleser 84 and Ben Christopher 96.
