Kodi Craft, Trey Dale and Elliot Leinen each carded rounds in the 70s and those performances helped the Bemidji boys golf team finish third at Thursday's Melrose Invitational.
The meet was held at Greystone Golf Course near Sauk Centre and the course is also the site of the section tournament which begins Wednesday.
"This was our last chance to play the course before sections and, hopefully, we saved our best golf for last," said BHS coach Seth Knudson. "We're right where we need to be to compete at the section meet. We're improving at the right time."
Staples won Thursday's competition with 307 and Alexandria was second at 308. Bemidji claimed third in the nine-team meet with 312.
The field included four section teams. Alexandria had the best round with its 308 while Bemidji was second among the section teams with its 312. Sartell shot 324 and Sauk Rapids 351.
Individually Kodi Craft paced the Jacks with a 76. Trey Dale shot 77, Elliot Leinen 79, Max Hazelton 80, Jordan Manick 84 and Kaleb Hanosn 91.
"We had three golfers in the 70s and two more who were very close," Knudson said. "This was our third time playing the course and we know it well. Now our job is to get the job done Wednesday at the section meet."
