Bemidji Blue Ox sweeps weekend action
BEMIDJI - The Bemidji Blue Ox men's amateur baseball team swept a pair of weekend games, downing Leech Lake 14-3 Saturday in Walker and drubbing Verndale 12-0 Sunday at the BSU diamond.
In Saturday's game Bemidji took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Matt Schneider's sacrifice fly and Sol Schneider's single and Josh Kelsey's 2-run home run gave Bemidji a 4-0 advantage.
The Blue Ox padded their lead with three runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth.

The Blue Ox broke a 0-0 deadlock in Sunday's game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Chris Conway provided the key hit in the frame as he ripped a 2-run double.
Nick Lee contributed an RBI single and Bryan Jamieson delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Duane Biehn singled home Josh Kelsey in the seventh and later scored on a passed ball to give the Blue Ox a 6-1 lead.
Bemidji ended the game via the 10-run rule in the lower eighth when Joel Conway singled in Jamieson, Biehn delivered a sacrifice fly and Nolan Coyle ripped a 3-run home run.
Biehn belted four hits, scored two runs and drove in a pair. Chris Conway and Jamieson each had three hits.
Jamieson also went the distance on the mound, tossing the shutout while allowing only three hits.
