Bemidji Blue Ox opens region play Saturday

BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Blue Ox amateur baseball team captured the top seed of the Lake and Pine Conference for the Region 10-C tournament which begins Saturday in Ada.

Bemidji, which defeated Cass Lake twice over the weekend in the league playoff championship series, will face the second seed from the Norman-Polk Conference 1 p.m. Saturday. If the Blue Ox wins that game it will advance in the winner's bracket and face Roseau at 7 p.m. Roseau was the No. 1 seed from the Northwest Border Conference.

Cass Lake is the second seed from the Lake and Pine League and will open the region tournament 10 a.m. Saturday against Crookston, the No. 2 seed from the Northwest Border.

That winner will take on the top seed from the Norman-Polk League 4 p.m. Saturday.

The region tournament continues through Sunday and will conclude on Aug. 10. The top two teams from the Region 10-C tournament will advance to the state amateur Class C tournament which begins Aug. 16 in Maple Lake and Delano.

Game 3: Game 1 winner vs. Norman-Polk No. 1 seed, 4 p.m.

Game 4: Game 2 winner vs. Roseau (Northwest Border No. 1 seed), 7 p.m.

Game 5: Game 1 loser vs. Game 4 loser, 10 a.m. (loser eliminated)

Game 6: Game 2 loser vs. Game 3 loser, 1 p.m. (loser eliminated)

Game 7: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner, 4 p.m.

Game 8: Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner, 7 p.m. (loser eliminated)

Saturday, Aug. 10

Game 9: Game 7 loser vs. Game 8 winner, 1 p.m. (loser eliminated)

Game 10: Game 7 winner vs. Game 9 winner, 4 p.m. (winner is region's No. 1 seed to state; loser is region's No. 2 seed to state)
