Bemidji area fire destroys garage, contents

A fire Monday morning caused about $28,000 worth of damage to a garage and small storage shed northeast of Bemidji.

According to a press release from Bemidji Fire Chief Dave Hoefer:

Bemidji firefighters responded at 6:23 a.m. to the 8100 block of Hillcrest Drive Northeast in Port Hope Township for a garage fire.

Upon arrival, they found the garage and a small storage shed fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the two structures. Twenty firefighters were on scene with two fire engines and three tankers.

No one was injured.

The Fire Department remained on scene about two hours.

Damage to the structure and their contents is estimated at $28,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Department, but no foul play is suspected.

Assisting at the scene were the Beltrami County Sheriff's office, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Bemidji Area School District (transportation department) and Beltrami Electric Cooperative.
