SARTELL – The Bemidji girls tennis team took its first step Friday to what it hopes will lead to a berth in the state meet when it defeated Thief River Falls 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the Section 8-2A tournament.

The Lumberjacks resume play 3 p.m. today against either Willmar or Monticello. If Bemidji wins that match it will advance to today’s 6:30 p.m. section championship match, most likely against St. Cloud Tech.

The Jacks swept Friday’s singles matches and prevailed in two of the three doubles matches.
