Howes, who was first elected in 1998, was unopposed for endorsement, according to Beltrami County GOP Chair Ken Cobb.

Republicans gathered Thursday night at the Beltrami Electric meeting room.

Redistricting, done every 10 years to reflect shifting populations based on the U.S. Census, changed the boundaries of Howes' previous district.

Previously, he served in a district including areas south of Bemidji. The new boundaries includes southeast Beltrami County, including the city of Bemidji.
