Beltrami County Sheriff Hodapp seeks re-election
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp announced his plans Monday to seek re-election to a second four-year term.

"I'm proud of the work of the Sheriff's Office," Hodapp said in a press release. "From the start, our priority has been two-fold: the safety of our citizens and the reduction of crime in our county. And, in this regard, our record stands strong."

Hodapp became sheriff Jan. 1, 2007, after winning election over Deputy Bill Cross. Hodapp, who had served as a special agent with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension replaced Sheriff Keith Winger who retired.

"Beltrami County is a great place to serve as a peace officer," Hodapp said. "Together, we've accomplished a lot over the past four years and there's more that I'd like to tackle.

"I welcome the opportunity to work with our skilled staff, community agencies and volunteers and serve another term as sheriff of this great county."

Under his leadership, Hodapp said in the release, the Sheriff's Office has "responded to crime victims with a particular focus, delivering professional law enforcement and emergency services to the citizens of the county.

"The key to our success," Hodapp said, "is our ability to integrate our approach to public safety by aligning the various departments within our county, most notably with the widely successful Safe Neighborhoods initiative."

Hodapp serves on the executive boards of several public safety organizations, including the Paul Bunyan Task Force and the FBI-based Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force.

He also serves as the District 1 representative for the Minnesota Sheriff's Association.

"The office of sheriff isn't a one-person job," Hodapp said. "I value the support of the community, which plays an integral role in our success."
