Beltrami County may get federal storm aid
BEMIDJI -- Beltrami County may be added to President Obama's storm declaration that already has pledged federal aid funds to eight Minnesota counties, Beltrami County Emergency Services Chris Muller said Friday. A total of $174,000 in public property damage was reported in the county from June 11 to July 11, which is above the requirement to receive federal aid. Muller said the tally comes from damage reported by the Beltrami County Highway Department, several Beltrami County Townships, the Red Lake Nation and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
If federal officials determine Beltrami County's damage claims to be eligible, a request for funding will then be made, Muller said. Typically, federal aid funds 75 percent of a damage claim, with the remaining $25 percent paid by local government units, he said.
