Beltrami County hires AIS inspector
BEMIDJI -- Beltrami County now has an official solely devoted to the task of watching for aquatic invasive species, or AIS.
The county announced the hiring of Chris Richardson, a recent BSU grad, in a release Monday.
Richardson will head up a special team of inspectors who will monitor boat accesses at Lake Bemidji, Big Turtle Lake, Lake Beltrami and Lake Irving.
Those interested in volunteering as an inspector/educator are encouraged to email Richardson at email@example.com. Last year's volunteers will still need to attend a training session this year, the release said.
The AIS Initiative is a partnership between the Turtle River Watershed Association, Beltrami County, Friends of Lake Bemidji, Turtle Lake Township and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
