The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners will consider a request from Roosevelt Township to take over a portion of County Road 500 near Clearwater Lake.
The County Board will meet at 5 p.m. today in the County Administration Building, 701 Minnesota Ave. N.W., following a 3-5 p.m. work session.
If commissioners give tentative approval to the proposal, a public hearing will be called on the issue, expected to be followed by a resolution making the transfer permanent. The Beltrami County Highway Department has recommended the board give tentative approval to the proposal.
At issue is 130 feet of County Road 500 in the Clearwater View section of Roosevelt Township. If approved, Roosevelt Township would take over jurisdiction and maintenance of the road.
Also on the agenda is discussion and approval of a resolution setting the proposed 2012 property tax levy of $17,501,013. The commissioners conducted in-depth discussion of the proposed levy during an Aug. 23 work session.
State law requires the County Board to set the preliminary levy by Sept. 15. After that, the board can reduce the budget levy, but not increase it. The commissioners must also set the date of the public hearing on the proposed budget after Nov. 24. County Administrator Tony Murphy recommended the public hearing be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Commissioners will also consider hiring a fall seasonal highway laborer and part-time Extension secretary.
