Beltrami County beginning newsletter for citizens
The first edition of the new quarterly Beltrami County Newsletter will be distributed in Sunday's edition of The Bemidji Pioneer and The Advertiser.
Additional copies of the newsletter also will be available at the Red Lake Post Office and at county office buildings while supplies last.
According to a county news release, one of the citizen concerns revealed by the citizen perception survey conducted last year is that Beltrami County should be doing better in communicating with citizens.
County government is a complex organization and it is important for the county to do a better job of explaining the duties and responsibilities of various county departments. Also, the county can do more in communicating when changes in policies, programs and services are made and why those changes are necessary.
The release said the county strives to improve the level of communication, and every attempt will be made to speak simply and clearly.
The Beltrami County Newsletter will be part of a county strategy to improve citizen communications. The newsletter is scheduled to be prepared and distributed at the end of each quarter during 2012.
The county plans to include timely articles to describe county business activity without any bias.
At the end of 2012, the county commissioners will evaluate the success of the newsletter and determine whether it should continue or what improvements might be considered.
Suggestions for newsletter improvements, future article topics or other feedback is always welcome.
