Beltrami County agencies join SHIP
Staff members from Beltrami County agencies are providing local leadership on behalf of the Stateside Health Improvement Program grant.
Linda Yourczek and Lori Jensen, Beltrami County Health and Human Services; Marti Lundin, Beltrami Wellness Education for Long Life; Matthew Dyrdahl, Headwaters Regional Development Commission; Deb Dilley and Susanne Rabel, University of Minnesota-Extension; and Noreen Reding, Bemidji State University, will represent Beltrami County on the SHIP Community Leadership Team along with representatives from Clearwater, Hubbard and Lake of the Woods Counties.
The North Country Community Health Board received a grant from the Minnesota Department of Health. The MDH program was created to reduce regional health care costs associated with chronic disease management, specifically in regard to tobacco use and obesity.
The grant will address reducing tobacco use and increasing the availability of and access to healthful foods and physical activity opportunities. It will provide policy, system and environmental changes by bringing evidence-based and practiced-based interventions to schools, communities, worksites and health care systems.
SHIP interventions are estimated to save $1.9 billion in Minnesota by 2015.
Raeann Mayer provides overall SHIP coordination.
