BEMIDJI -- Cassie MacArthur's double down the left field line in the fifth inning plated three runners and fueled a decisive six-run innings as the Bemidji State University softball team stopped MSU Moorhead 6-1 in the first game of Tuesday's home doubleheader.
In the nightcap the Dragons scored the lone run in the 12th inning and downed the Beavers 1-0.
BSU is now 8-21 on the year and improved to 1-11 in the NSIC.
Courtney Anderson pitched 13 innings for the Beavers between the two games, yielding just one run on 11 hits with 11 strikeouts.
She went the distance in the opener and allowed only the one run. In the second game Anderson pitched six innings of scoreless ball.
MSU Moorhead to took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning of the first game but Anderson held the Dragons off the board the rest of the way.
Bemidji State struck for six runs in the bottom of the fifth frame. Kayla Babinski led off the inning with a single and Megan Bergeson was hit by a pitch. Summer Monsrud grounded to short stop but a fielder's choice throw to third was late and the bases were loaded.
MacArthur followed with a double down the left field line which put BSU ahead 3-0 over MSU Moorhead.
The inning also included singles by Crystal Bowen, Courtney Loegering and Nicole Dupay, Hannah Benzie's double and a walk to Bergeson.
The rematch was scoreless until the top of the 12th when MSU Moorhead scored on a pair of singles.
Kelsey Saralampi suffered the loss for the Beavers after pitching a strong six innings of relief in which she allowed one run on five hits and three strikeouts.
The Beaver bats only had four hits in the second game led by hits from Monsrud, Beard, Bowen and Dupay.
BSU will return to action on Thursday and Friday as they host Minnesota-Duluth. The games Thursday were moved from Saturday due to a strong chance of rain. Thursday's games will commence at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and will count as nonconference games. Friday's games with the Bulldogs will be played at noon and 2 p.m. and be NSIC contests.
