Beavers drop season finale
VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- The Bemidji State softball team was swept by the Valley City State Vikings Wednesday afternoon, 8-3 and 4-1, to conclude the 2012 season with a 10-37 (3-23 NSIC) record.
The Beavers won five more games this season under first-year head coach Rick Supinski than they did in 2011.
Allison Roberts got the start in game one for the Beavers, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. She was relieved by Kelsey Saralampi, who went 1 1/2 innings and gave up three hits.
Valley City State (25-18) got on the scoreboard first with three runs in the bottom of the first then added a fourth in the bottom of the fourth
The Beavers rallied in the top of the fifth as they closed within one run. Courtney Loegering doubled to center field to plate Cassie MacAr-thur and Megan Bergeson to make it 4-2. The third run came as Megan Beard reached on an error, allow-ing Loegering to cross the plate.
Valley City State piled on in the third to pull away, scor-ing four runs.
Loegering led the Beavers in game one, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Summer Monsrud went 2-for-4 on the game as did Kayla Babinski.
In game two, Saralampi got the start in the circle, going six innings and giving up 12 hits and four earned runs in the loss.
The Beavers managed only three hits against VCSU starter Katie McBride, who picked up the win.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Beavers got on the scoreboard first when Babinski scored on an error which allowed Bowen to reach base.
But VCSU countered with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth, which would be enough for a Vikings win.
Babinski led BSU in game two, going 2-for-3. Monsrud had the other hit for the Beavers in game two.
