The honor is bestowed to coaches that have made outstanding contributions to the sport of hockey in Minnesota.

"I was very humbled and honored to be included with all the great coaches of Minnesota boy's hockey history," Sertich said. "It's a nice compliment to the program in Roseville that we had for a dozen years."

In his fourth year at Bemidji State, Sertich was earlier honored as the 2010 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Coach of the Year after leading the women's hockey team to a first-ever appearance in the WCHA Final Face-Off. The Beavers finished the last season 12-19-7 (9-12-7-3 WCHA).

Sertich's first coaching jobs were at Northfield High School and Virginia High School. After a brief hiatus from coaching in the early 1980s, he spent several seasons as an assistant to Wayne Nelson at Blaine High School. After Blaine, Sertich spent the next five years as an assistant to Mike Thomas at Richfield High School.

In 1993 he took the head coaching job with the boy's team at Roseville High School and the Raiders reached the state tournament in 2002 and 2003.

In 2003, Sertich took over the head coaching job for the girl's team at Roseville High School and took the team to the state tournament in 2006. Sertich then accepted the head coaching position at Bemidji State in 2006.

Sertich, who played and graduated from Colorado College, is the all-time winningest coach at Bemidji State with 33 wins in his four years at BSU.

In May 2007 Sertich became the Vice President of Board of Directors for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Sertich has also coached two Olympians while at Bemidji State, Nina Ziegenhals who played for Team Germany in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and Zuzana Tomickova who played for Team Slovakia in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Sertich is joined in 2010 inductee class by Larry Hendrickson of Apple Valley High School, John McNamara of Northfield High School and former Beaver Hockey alum Gary Hokanson of Roseau High School.
