Beaver Frozen Four trip makes a D.C.'er proud

A 1940 graduate of Bemidji High School, and by now a very long-time resident of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area ... I never envisioned seeing such headlines here as:

"From the Land of Paul Bunyan, Meet Bemidji State in Frozen Four, Bemidji State Makes a Name for Itself" ... this from The Washington Post.

"Bemidji's Tall Tale Captures Hearts" ... from The Washington Times.

"Skating Out of Oblivion, Bemidji State fans' passion infuses District" ... also from the Times.

My wife, is a native Washington, D.C., resident, so never gets the quizzical looks that I always get when I say that I am originally from Bemidji, Minn. "Is that a city?" is often the question. Now thanks to the Bemidji State Beavers, I have at least proven to our circle of friends that Bemidji exists ... and in a couple of instances, I have been told by friends that they had told others they actually know someone from Bemidji. I became sort of a celebrity, thanks to the Bemidji State Beavers!

While I know their visit here wound up a disappointment for them, I hope they took comfort in the fact that they made a lot of friends who were rooting for them every step of the way.
