Former Vergas resident Beatrice L. (Kuhne) Wesley, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Beatrice Lorraine Kuhne was born to George and Esther (Robinson) Kuhne on Oct. 3, 1930 in Miltona, Minn., where she attended grade school. She attended high school in Alexandria, Minn. Bea married Harry Wesley on Feb. 3, 1949 in Belle River, Minn. They lived in Parkers Prairie until moving to Vergas in 1955.

Bea worked at the Loon's Nest Café in Vergas for 28 years, and was active as a Cub Scout den mother, had served on the Vergas P.T.A., was a member of the Vergas Homemakers Club and was councilor of Candor Township. For several years she was active in the Vergas Knitting Club and on the Vergas Long Lake Park Board.

Bea and Harry moved to Detroit Lakes in 1995. Harry died Dec. 27, 2008.

During her retirement years, Bea enjoyed family time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, fishing and spending time playing cards with her neighbor friends.

Beatrice will be remembered and missed by her children, Margaret (Chuck) Saunders of Coon Rapids, Minn., and John Wesley of Detroit Lakes; three grandsons and one granddaughter; four great grandsons and four great granddaughters; sisters, Lucille Vogt of Leaf Valley, Minn., Marlys Kuhne of Farwell, Minn., Sharon Revering of Alexandria and Kathy (Philbert) Larson of Henning, Minn.; brothers, Harold (Ann) Kuhne of Parkers Prairie and George Jr. (Kathy) Kuhne of Miltona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Harry, Bea was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian Kuhne and Ann Zuelke; brother, Arnold Kuhne; and a daughter-in-law, Kristie Wesley.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes; there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday for one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 at St. William's Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie, with the Rev. LeRoy Scheirel officiating. Interment will be in St. William's Cemetery in Parkers Prairie.

The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with arrangements. An online guestbook is available at
