BEMIDJI - Bears Den Landing and Pine Point Landing in southwestern Beltrami County is closed to visitors, according to a news release issued this morning by the county.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources closed both sites because of the number of fallen trees, making travel impossible, the release said.

"Our unsung heroes, Beltrami Electric, Ottertail Power, Paul Bunyan Telephone, Midcontinent and other vendors continue to work long hours to restore power and amenities to residences," said Beryl Wernberg, the 911 supervisor/emergency management director for the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

The release said people should contact local providers with questions and concerns.

"Finally we appreciate all of the citizens in our County that have stepped up to help their neighbors, friends and family," Wernberg wrote in the release. "We are truly blessed with compassionate and caring citizens who go out of their way to help others."

The county also plans to establish a hotline later today - staffed by volunteers - to connect people in need with those willing to offer assistance.
