BASEBALL: Ryan Hirt pitches three innings in All-Star game
CHANHASSEN -- Bemidji's Ryan Hirt yielded three runs in three innings of work during last weekend's Lions All-Star baseball series.
The games, which pitted the top recently graduated high school seniors from the Metro East, North, South and Metro West, were originally scheduled to be played in Chaska but were moved to Chanhassen because of better field conditions.
Each pitcher was assigned no more than three innings of work and Hirt was on the mound for the middle innings against the Metro West. The left-hander was clocked at 89 to 90 miles per hour by the professional scouts and his linescore included two hits, three runs, one earned run, four walks and three strikeouts.
The Metro West defeated the North 6-2. In Saturday's action the Metro East downed the North 10-4 but the North stopped the South 6-1.
Hirt saw duty at first base against the East and the South and had an at-bat in each game, drawing a walk both times.
The Metro East went 3-0 in the tournament while the Metro West finished 2-1, the North 1-2 and the South 0-3.
