The Bemidji Blue Ox and Mudcats meet for the second time tonight in their annual best of three series for the mythical city championship.
For the first time in the brief three-year history of the Blue Ox, they take a 1-0 lead into Game 2.
They took the opener May 22 with a 2-1 decision, scoring in the ninth inning against reliever Paul Fenner to snap a 1-1 tie.
Sam Anderson had gone the first eight.
Matt Fossen got the win in relief for the Ox.
Tonight the Ox will send ace Cody Gross to the hill seeking his second win in five decisions. The first came over Wadena 1-0 in the Rosco Invitational. He dropped his last start 5-2 to Ada.
Dan Bauer will get the Mudcats call, seeking his first win.
The Cats lost to Grand Rapids 3-0 Wednesday to drop to 13-6-1.
The double loss to Ada dropped the Blue Ox to 6-9.
Should the Mudcats win tonight, a third game will be played later this month.
