The Bemidji High baseball team saved the best for last Thursday sweeping a double header at Moorhead's Mattson Field 6-4 and 2-1.
The sweep lifted the Jacks into second place in the sub-section which opens play Monday at Brainerd.,
Bemidji will play at 12:30 against third seeded Moorhead with top ranked Brainerd taking on Alexandria in the other opener.
All four teams will play a second game to eliminate one team.
The three survivors will return Wednesday for the second round with the title game Thursday at Don Adamson field.
Bemidji had its best day of the season to clinch a winning record, raising its mark to 11-9.
Chad Head and Tyler Follis combined on a six hitter in the opener with Head going the first six for his second win.
The junior righthander fanned two and walked four.
Bemidji gave him two runs in the second when Simon Anderson reached on an a two base overthrow, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Billy Statton's single.
Auston Zetah doubled in Statton.
It became 3-0 in the third when Anderson singled with two outs, took second on a passed ball and scored as Statton reached on an error,
Moorhead got this one back in the third. But the Jacks moved to a 6-1 lead in the fourth. Follis opened with his first home run of the year. Matt Hietala singled and scored ahead of Sol Schneider's first homer.
Those three proved crucial since Moorhead answered with three unearned runs in the last of the frame to narrow the gap to 6-4.
That was to be the final score as Head and Follis worked three scoreless innings for Bemidji. They finished with three strikeouts and four walks.
Scott Petry went the route for the Spuds allowing eight hits while walking two and fanning two.
The nightcap was even more of a pitcher's battle between Follis and Moorhead's Casey Smith.
Moorhead took a 1-0 lead in the third.
But Bemidji ran home all three of its runs in the fourth.
Schneider singled and took third on Anderson's hit and run single.
Anderson stole second and Cody Rutledge cashed both with a single.
Statton walked and Nick Lee ran. He reached second as Rutledge was caught stealing at third.
Zetah reached on a force out, took second on a passed ball and scored as Tyler Tatro was safe on an error,
That ended the scoring.
Follis picked up his first win with two strikeouts and no walks.
Smith fanned two and walked three in a route going performance.
Anderson will get the start Monday in the first game with Jeremiah Graves set for the second.
The JV ended its season with a pair of blowouts 17-3 and 15-0.
The freshmen closed a spectacular season winning 5-2 and 11-3.
Mitch Brown threw a three hitter in the opener for his seventh win.
Cody Jenkins tripled and Sam Dwyer went 3-3 in the eight hit Bemidji attack.
Jenkins also reached 7-0 in the nightcap with a five hitter. Zach DeClusin tripled and Trent Baker and Jenkins doubled as Bemidji pounded out eight hits.
The frosh ended 29-2 on the year.
