The Winona State won game one 5-2 before downing BSU 16-0 in a mercy-ruled seven innings in game two.

In game one, the Warriors (12-15, 9-6 NSIC) scored a single run in the second to take the 1-0 lead, then opened up the advantage with three runs on five hits in the third to hold the 4-0 lead.

WSU tacked on another in the fifth and led 5-0, but the Beavers (13-12, 7-5 NSIC) avoided the shutout and scored twice in the bottom half.

Senior outfielder Cole Bjorge led off the fifth with a double to left field, advanced to third on a one-out single through the left side by junior Dylan Webb and would scored on freshman Logan Riedel’s sacrifice fly to right.

After freshman infielder Jake Braun doubled down the left field line, Webb came across to score on an infield single by senior Chad Hanson.

The five-run lead through four and a half proved to be enough for the Warriors, as they earned the 5-2 victory.

BSU didn’t post a hit until the third.

The Winona State defense was stellar in game one, robbing two hits in the outfield and turning three double plays.

BSU junior right-hander Tyler Saeugling hurled five complete innings and allowed the five runs (four earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts and four walks. He suffered the loss and fell to 2-4 on the season.

Hanson and Webb each recorded two hits, while Hanson posted an RBI and Webb scored a run.

Chase Blazier went the distance and picked up the victory for Winona. He struck out just one but walked none and gave up nine hits.

In game two, it was all Winona.

The Warriors scored their first runs of game two on a two-spot in the third inning, then tallied four runs (two unearned) in the fourth on four hits and two BSU errors to open a 6-0 lead.

A two-run shot over the left field fence in the fifth made it 8-0 in favor of the road team. WSU scored a run in the sixth, then totaled seven runs on seven hits in the seventh to ensure the quick victory and win 16-0 on 20 hits.

Freshman righty Mark Kosmalski started for BSU and suffered the loss (0-2) after throwing 3.2 innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

BSU would only total six hits, getting a 2-for-2 performance from freshman Ben Boser. BSU had three errors, while the Warriors posted two double plays for five total on the day.

Will Lundquist started for Winona and picked up the victory. He struck out five and walked none.

The two teams will again do battle today in another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
