Baseball: Bemidji Mudcats try for Grand Rapids win Wednesday
The Bemidji Mudcats will make a third try tonight at besting the Grand Rapids Indians in Arrowhead League play when they host the league leaders at 7:30 on the BSU diamond.
The pair have met twice, once at each team's home field. The results were identical with Grand Rapids winning 3-0.
On each instance the winners jumped to a quick first inning lead and made it stand up.
In the opener at Legion Park, it was a three-run opening frame. At Bemidji last week they moved ahead 2-0 in the first.
Manager James Brubaker worked the first game. ICC star Tyler Blomberg pitched here.
Either is likely to go tonight with Gabe Wood also available.
The Cats will likely send Paul Fenner (3-1) to the hill. They played a non-league game at Ada last night trying to repeat the 8-0 win they registered in the final of the Rosco Invitational.
Bemidji is 14-6-1 overall but 3-3 in Arrowhead League play, tied for third with Duluth at that point behind the Rapids which leads at 5-1. Its lone loss came to Nashwauk which currently holds second at 4-3. Winless Hibbing trails the field.
This weekend the Cats host Duluth in a twin bill Saturday at 1 and travel to Hibbing for another pair Sunday.
