BASEBALL: Beavers split with Augustana
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The BSU baseball team earned another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference split against Wednesday afternoon against Augustana.
The Beavers dropped the first game 5-2 in extra innings before bouncing back to win 4-3 and snapping Augie’s nine-game winning streak.
In game one the Beavers trailed 2-1 in the second innint but toed it up in the top of the seventh inning when a fielders choice for Logan Riedel scored Bo Schmitz from third base to make it 2-2.
However, the Vikings won in the eighth with a walk-off three-run home run by Jack Goihl.
Terry Hadden went 6 2/3 innings for BSU and gave up just two runs but Nate Heisick gave up the game-tying homer and took the loss.
Game two went much better for BSU.
The Beavers (8-9, 2-2 NSIC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Augie (18-8, 8-2) tied it with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth but Cole Bjorge reached on an error in the seventh and allowed Schmitz to score the eventual winning run.
Jesse Katz earned his first victory on the mound while Ryan Rumpca got the save after facing one batter in the seventh.
