FARGO – A brouhaha over a barking dog landed a Fargo man in jail Friday, charged with Class C felony aggravated assault.

Charging documents filed Friday in Cass County District Court say at 12:43 a.m. Friday, police were called to the home of Kent Zimmerman, 51, 1422 1st Ave. S. in Fargo after a neighbor complained of people fighting upstairs.

Zimmerman told police he’d been trying to sleep and became upset because his roommate’s dog was barking. He told police he and the roommate, Steve Winter, had pushed each other around.

According to court records, Winter told police he’d been minding his own business when Zimmerman punched him several times in the face, knocking him out. Winter told police he didn’t remember anything after that.

Winter, whose face was swollen and had cuts on his face, nose and mouth, was taken by ambulance to Sanford Health.

Zimmerman was released from the Cass County Jail after posting $500 bond.
