Barbara Ann Day Saice (Niiyo gabow ikwe – Four Standing Women), 71, of Bemidji died Monday, April 8, 2013 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Monday, April 15, 2013 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji with Fr. Don Braukmann officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm with a 6:00 pm prayer service on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji, MN.

Barb was born March 24, 1942 in Cass Lake the daughter of John and Gladys (Allen) Day. She graduated from Walker High school in 1960. She then attended the Minneapolis Beauty Academy. She was famous for her haircuts and perms. She married her life love Donald A. Saice February 8, 1964 in Minneapolis, MN. Together they raised 3 boys. She attended the University of Minnesota in Crookston for a year and then Bemidji State University for 2 years. She moved to Bemidji in 1976 and has resided there since. Holding several jobs, Barb’s favorite jobs were for the Bemidji School District helping her In-Med Students and working at Leech Lake Youth Lodge. And her true passion was working for the health division as an Elder Advocate. She was always helping someone with something. Barb was a strong, caring, loving happy, honest and the world’s greatest Grandma. G-ma as the kids would say. She was a great friend, sister, aunt, wife and mother. She will be missed by all and was loved by many. Barb’s favorite pastimes were the family get-togethers and card games, 20/20 Bingo and the casino, making ribbon shirts and blankets, fixing Spanish Rice for 2 of her brothers, golfing, and her favorite pastimes was being a grandma and great grandma, roles she cherished and loved.

She is survived by her son: Donald (Julie) Saice, Jr., 7 brothers: Ralph (Ester) Day, Paul (Betty) Day, John “JD” (Monica) Day, Dr. Donald (Priscilla) Day, Steven (Tammy) Day, Raymond (Ernestine) Day, Larry (Gloria) Day, 4 sisters:Donna Morgan, Clarice White, Sue Jones, Doris (Delmar) Jones, 4 grandchildren: John, Shauntel, Matthew and Angela,5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, sons Sean (Tracy) and John Saice and brothers Richard and Ronald Day.

Honorary Casketbearers will be her co-workers at the health division, and clients, 7 sisters-in-law, sewing circle at the ENP and the 20/20 Bingo staff, Jan Martin, Linda Frizzell, Mary Beckett, and the clients a she worked with as an Elder Advocate.

Active Casketbearers will be John Saice, Matthew Saice, Christopher Day, Russell White, LeRoy Brunette, Delmar Jones III, Gary Hanson and Bill Butcher.

Barb was a pipe carrier, attended the sweat lodge and was a big part of the Big Drum Ceremonies in the fall and spring. Online Guestbook at
