Bar asks permission for kickboxing event, street dance
BEMIDJI — The Bemidji City Council is scheduled to decide whether to sign off on a Toasty Beavers-sponsored kickboxing event and street dance during Monday’s council meeting.
The council may or may not grant the downtown sports bar a temporary off-premises liquor permit for the event, which is scheduled for May 17, according to a letter sent to the city from the bar.
“No more than half” of downtown Third Street will be blocked off, from the intersection with Beltrami Avenue to the end of Toasty Beavers’ property line, the letter said. The promoter, Full Nelson Promotions, will start fights at 6 p.m. and end at about 9 p.m. A street dance is planned immediately after the end of kickboxing until midnight.
To prevent underage drinking, Toasty Beavers will provide security for the event as well as wristbands to differentiate between those 21 and over, and those underage, the letter said.
Underage attendees will be required to leave the event after 10 p.m., the letter said.
Monday’s city council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall and is open to the public.
