The big Bemidji Community Band got off to another rousing start this summer season playing its first successful concert last Sunday night before a large and appreciative audience. But hey, considering they played so well two Sousa marches, a "Danny Boy" and an "Over The Rainbow," what was there not to like?
It's great that this fine band tradition continues, but something was lost this year in that tradition: they did not play in Baker Park. Heretofore for many years the two had been synonymous. Seems that the park owner, Sanford, ruled against it, alas. Hmmm, not good, or so think many current residents of "Sanfordville."
Perhaps the best analysis of the Sanford decision is the simple line: "It was stinky."
