Balstads receive volunteer award
The Bemidji Pioneer, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, Ken K. Thompson and the United Way recognize Someone Special Volunteers who have made significant contributions to the community.
Vance and Sue Balstad, were nominated by Beaver Athletics and Fishing Has No Boundaries as Someone Special Volunteers.
For 25 years, Vance and Sue have performed as volunteer cooks for the three fundraising golf tournaments that are held every summer at the Bemidji Town and Country Club to benefit Bemidji State University athletics.
They have also been longtime volunteers for the Fishing Has No Boundaries program, performing so well as volunteers that the Nisswa and Devil's Lake Fishing Has No Boundaries programs utilized the Balstads for their expertise when starting out their programs.
The Balstads are involved with the annual Bemidji Car Show, the annual Kraus-Anderson Fishing Tournament and the Nymore Daze celebration.
They have an excellent reputation as dedicated, reliable and effective volunteers, skilled cooks, and goodwill ambassadors for the benefit of the Bemidji community.
