Sean Peterson announced his intention Tuesday to seek the state House seat, which includes Lake of the Woods County and parts of Clearwater, Beltrami and Hubbard counties.

"As a teacher in rural Minnesota, I'm committed to our kids' futures," Peterson said in a news release. "Our state legislators need to focus on jobs, a strong rural economy and a strong education system that will give our kids more opportunities."

The DFL party meets April 14.

Peterson, 45, teaches at the high school and is the head coach for the Bagley/Fosston cross country and track and field teams.

He grew up in Detroit Lakes and Moorhead, and has two daughters, Karis, 11, and Karly, 6.
