Bagley football team tops Cass Lake-Bena

BAGLEY – Zach Thoma connected on 10 of his 13 passes for 152 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Flyers to a 44-12 victory at Cass Lake-Bena Friday.

Bagley, 1-1, wasted no time getting into the end zone as Jesse Dukek scored on a 50-yard run in the opening quarter.

Later in the period Thoma found Lucas Thompson with a 30-yard TD pass and in the second quarter Thoma teamed with tight end Jake Skansberg on a 15-yard touchdown play.

At intermission Bagley enjoyed a 24-6 lead and the visitors would add 20 points in the second half, courtesy of another Thompson TD catch, a 15-yard fumble return by Jake Powell and a 55-yard interception return by Mason Clough.

Bagley’s offense generated 399 total yards. Dukek finished with 104 yards on seven carries and Kyler LaVine had 89 yards on nine rushes.

Thompson caught six passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns.

“It was a great win and team effort,” said Bagley coach Brandon Schwegel. “Several players were able to step up and make some key plays for us.”

Bagley (1-1) hosts Pillager Friday. Cass Lake-Bena visits Pine River-Backus.

Pillager is coming off last week’s 70-28 win over Blackduck.

Trey Volk led Blackduck’s ground game with 167 yards and two touchdowns on 10 rushes. Cooper Jedlick gained 68 yards and added a TD on seven carries and Levi Dexter scored and had 22 yards on three runs.

Volk caught three passes for 12 yards and Brady Gross made one 12-yard reception.

Jake Krabbenhoft completed four of eight passes and Volk connected on one of his two tosses.

Shane Fenske and Volk each contributed five solo tackles and three assists. Colton Brown had four solo stops.

Blackduck hosts Lake of the Woods Friday night.

In other area football results last week, Kelliher-Northome improved to 2-0 with a 46-14 victory over McGregor. The Mustangs visit Floodwood this week.

In area volleyball action Bagley outlasted Blackduck 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 26-24 and was swept by 2-0 scores at the Ada-Borup Invitational by Kittson County, Underwood and Win-E-Mac.

Cass Lake-Bena edged Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 3-2 and Kelliher-Northome topped Laporte 25-16, 27-25, 25-17.

This week’s schedule finds Blackduck vising Laporte on Tuesday and Bigfork on Thursday, CL-B hosting Red Lake on Thursday, Kelliher-Northome entertaining Indus today and Bagley welcoming Ulen-Hitterdahl today and Fosston Thursday.
