SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Bemidji State softball team fell 4-1 and 9-1 Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader against No. 23-ranked Augustana College.
The Beavers fell to 7-18 overall and are still seeking their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win after eight losses.
The Vikings improved to 29-4 (7-1 NSIC).
BSU pitcher Courtney Anderson got the start in game one and shut down the Vikings in the first two innings. Augustana finally got to Anderson in the third inning as Theresa McMahon doubled to lead off and scored on a fielder's choice. Jenelle Trautmann followed with her 10th home run of the year, a two-run shot to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.
The Beavers got one back in the sixth when freshman Cassie MacArthur singled in Hannah Benzie. But that's all the scoring they could muster, and Augustana added a run in the sixth.
In game two, the Vikings struck early to score three in the first inning off BSU starter Kelsey Saralampi.
Bemidji State responded with a run of its own in the second. Megan Beard led off with a single and scored on a groundout by Courtney Loegering.
McMahon hit another two-run homer in the bottom of the second to put Augustana ahead 5-1, and the Vikings poured in four more in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Bemidji State will visit Wayne (Neb.) State for two more conference games Sunday.
