Auditions set Jan. 21 for Paul Bunyan Playhouse

BEMIDJI – Zach Curtis will return to the Paul Bunyan Playhouse as artistic director for a seventh year, a news release issued Thursday said.

“His return to the Playhouse makes him the one of the two longest tenured directors in their 63 year history,” the release said.

Curtis will hold local auditions for the 2013 season from 4-8 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Chief Theater.

The 63rd summer season opens June 5 with “Guys On Ice.” Other opening dates and productions are:

- June 19, “Dancing at Lughnasa”

- July 3, “Jekyll and Hyde”

- July 17, “Boeing Boeing”

- July 31, “She Loves Me”

Curtis has directed 23 productions for the Playhouse, including The Who’s “Tommy,” “Gypsy,” “Dracula,” “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Laughter on the 23rd Floor,” and “Chicago.”

As an actor, Paul Bunyan Playhouse audiences have seen him in “The Full Monty,” “21A,” “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “The Boys Next Door,” “The Odd Couple,” “The Music Man,” “The Foreigner,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Born Yesterday.”
