Assault victim suffered 'severe injuries from numerous stab wounds'
Christopher Lee Barrett, 22, of Cass Lake, has been airlifted to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D., following an assault that was reported early Sunday morning in Beltrami County.
Barrett suffered severe inju-ries from numerous stab wounds to his chest and upper torso, according to a press release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office re-sponded to the assault in the area of Osprey Lane Southeast in Ten Lake Township at about 3:10 a.m., according to the press release.
Barrett had been driven by witnesses to the PHS Hospital in Cass Lake and began to receive medical treatment for his injuries, but was then transferred via air ambulance to Fargo, the press release said.
Barrett's family has re-quested that his condition not be released, according to a spokeswoman for MeritCare Hospital.
A 21-year-old Duluth man was arrested about 3:40 a.m. and remains in custody at the Beltrami County Jail on suspi-cion of first-degree assault.
The incident remains under investigation and is being conducted by the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police, Cass County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Additional information is ex-pected to be released today.
