Kid’s art class scheduled BEMIDJI — A kid’s sculpture and painting class will take place from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Mondays between April 14 and April 28 in the Freaxis Studio, in the lower level of the Carnegie Library, 426 Bemidji Ave. N. This class is for children between 6 and 11 years of age. Cost is $48 for supplies and classes. Classes with culminate with Freaxis show of work May 2.

Cantus performance announced BEMIDJI — The Headwaters School of Music and the Arts will present Cantus at 7 p.m. April 22 at the Bemidji High School Performing Arts Center, 2900 Division St. NW. Cantus will perform “A Place For Us,” a musical narrative about the universal search for home. Cost is $17 in advance, $20 at the door and $5 for students. Theatrical auditions announced BEMIDJI — The Mask and Rose Women’s Theater Collective will hold theatrical auditions for high school students from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 21 at the Wild Rose Theater space, 501 Bemidji Ave. The auditions are for a production of Mary Zimmerman’s “ Metamorphoses” based on the epic poem by Ovid, a timeless classic depicting Greek tales of the human condition and the gods, love, want, greed and jealousy. ‘Festival of Talent’ set CASS LAKE —  An open house for the “Festival of Talent” from 6 to 9 p.m. April 23 at Cass Lake-Bena high school, 15314 State Highway 371 NW.  It will showcase art, music, speech, industrial arts and a variety of other items.  

Bluegrass concert scheduled BEMIDJI — The Minnesota Bluegrass Community Concert Series will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 26 at the Historic Chief Theater, 314 Beltrami Ave. NW. Both Copper Creek and The Eelpout Stringers will share the stage. Cost is $12 in advance, $15 at the door, $5 for teens and children under the age of 12 are free. Pelon concert scheduled FOSSTON — A Lauren Pelon concert will take place at 3 p.m. April 27 at the Fosston Art Center, 403 N Foss Ave., in Fosston. Lauren Pelon traces the story of music and performs music from around the world. R2AC seeks board members BEMIDJI — Region 2 Arts Council is currently seeking board members from Clearwater, Hubbard, and Lake of the Woods counties to fill a two-year term vacancy beginning Aug. 1.  Applications are due Tuesday.

Those who feel that the visual, performing and literary arts are an important contribution to the quality of life in Minnesota, should consider serving on the board of the Region 2 Arts Council. The board is responsible for planning, setting organizational policy, reviewing and awarding grants. It meets seven times a year in Bemidji on the third Monday of the month.
