Fiddle camp this week at Headwaters School of Music

BEMIDJI -- String Fling Fiddle Camp will offer both private and group instruction starting Monday. Campers will participate in two of four categories based on their playing ability. String Ensemble performance in Wilton

BEMIDJI -- As part of the Summer Recital Series the String Ensemble led by Melanie Hanson will perform from noon to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, 153 Third St. NW in Wilton. Performers include Hanson on violin, Sadie Hamrin on violin, Sarah Hamrin on viola, and Patrick Riley on cello. This is a multi generational ensemble. A luncheon will follow the concert. A free-will donation will be accepted.

Concert Series presents Fiddle Campers on Friday

BEMIDJI -- Headwaters School of Music and the Arts will host the Fiddle Campers in concert starting at 5 p.m. Friday in the dining hall at Lake Bemidji State Park, 3401 State Park Road NE. Concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 308-2300.

Life enhancement through arts project meeting

BEMIDJI -- If you are interested in contributing to the creation of a life-enhancing arts program for Bemidji-area residents with disabilities, a meeting to explore the collective skills, resources, and ideas for how to create a more colorful and joyful life for community members will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rail River Folk School, 303 Rail Road St. SW. Music and play fest set in Puposky

PUPOSKY -- "She Wrights," a celebration of original theater works and film written by women will take place from 2 p.m. to dusk Saturday on an outdoor stage in a natural amphitheater north of Bemidji on Highway 89. There will be signs. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic supper, lawn chairs or a blanket. Music by Kari Pickett and others will take place at 5:30 p.m. and be followed by "Sisters of the Quill and Skillet." "Legend of White Woman Creek," a folk opera will take place at 7 p.m. The film "Salma" will follow.

Grant writing workshop in Blackduck scheduled

BLACKDUCK -- Region 2 Arts Council Executive Director Terri Widman will discuss regional arts funding opportunities at a workshop at 4 p.m. June 24 at the Blackduck Senior Center, 24 First St. SE in Blackduck. Artists needing funding to create, perform or exhibit their works and representatives from arts groups, non-profit organizations, schools, or government offices interested in funding arts projects, performances, or events are encouraged to attend. Participants will learn what kinds of funding the Region 2 Arts Council has to offer, how to gather information needed to apply for one of our arts grants, and how to pull all this information together to write a proposal for funding. Picnic and pies in Park Rapids

Book signing announced

BEMIDJI-- Victoria Houston, author of "Dead Lil' Hustler (Loon Lake mystery 14)" will hold a book signing at 10 a.m. July 12 at Book World, 316 Beltrami Ave. NW. Mary Logue will also be there.

Price, Fletschock and Patterson reception

PARK RAPIDS -- An artist reception for Melba Price, Amber Fletschock and Abby Patterson will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nemeth Art Center, 301 Court Ave in Park Rapids. Melba Price's paintings of strangers are described as delicate, ethereal and glowing. Her show will be on display through July 1. Amber Fletschock and Abby Patterson work with collage and mixed-media and are showing their abstract and figurative pieces at the Nemeth in June.

Summer art classes at Watermark Art Center

BEMIDJI -- Youth Puppet Troupe for 10- to 15-year-olds will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays June 18 to Aug. 16. Cost is $120. This class is for children who love to use words, music, actions and humor, organizers said. The class will create a play from the ground up and take it out into the community.

Art Explore for 4- and 5-year-olds will take place from 10:45 to noon Wednesdays June 18 and Aug. 18. There will be no classes June 25 or July 16. Cost is $10 per class, including supplies.

Tuesdays Art Time for 6- to 11-year-olds will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting Tuesday through Aug. 21. The class will include free form sculpture, comic zines, parade masks, wild paintings and big prints. Cost is $12 per class, including supplies.

All classes are held at Freaxis Studio in the lower level of the Watermark Art Center, 426 Bemidji Ave. N. All classes are drop-off, though parents/guardians are encouraged to view their child's work at both drop-off and pick-up.
