Summer Recital Series continues
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Area Church Musicians Summer Recital Series will continue at noon Wednesday at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 1800 Irvine Avenue NW. Beverly Everett, organ, will perform works by French composer-organists Henri Mulet and Louis Vierne, and German composer-organist J. S. Bach. Dr. Everett will feature a composition by Joyce Jones, her organ professor at Baylor University. A luncheon will follow the concert with a price to be announced. The public is encouraged to attend the performance. A free will offering will be received at the door.
The Fattenin' Frogs play Second Street Stage
PARK RAPIDS -- The Fattenin' Frogs will return to Park Rapids from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at 2nd Street Stage, between Main Ave. and Highway 71 in Park Rapids. Bring your own lawn chairs. Annual Art in the Park announced
BEMIDJI --The 47th annual Art in the Park will feature more than 100 artists and vendors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20 at Library Park, one block north of Paul and Babe.
Artists will showcase ceramics, wood furniture and accessories, jewelry, glass, paintings, sculpture, fabrics, weaving, great food and much more. There will be music by Pat Surface in the Spiritwood Music Tent both Saturday and Sunday. There will be puppet performances with the Fortuna Puppet Theatre on Saturday and fantastic face painting and henna tattoos with Jens Werner. Artists from Two Eyes Weaving Studio will be doing demos and providing hands-on weaving opportunities and the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra will have stringed instruments.

"Guys and Dolls"at Northern Light Opera Co.
PARK RAPIDS -- The Northern Light Opera Co.'s production of the musical, "Guys and Dolls," will be performed at 7 p.m July 25-27 and Aug. 1 and at 3 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 2. Leech Lake Arts League art sale set
WALKER -- The Leech Lake Arts League annual art sale and show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 2 at Walker Hackensack Akeley High School, 301 Fourth St. in Walker. Ellie Ryan will be the featured artist. The public is invited.
Family art day at Bemidji State Park
BEMIDJI -- Art in the park will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 3 at Bemidji State Park. The schedule is as follows:
• 1 - 2 p.m. "LOOK," observe the display of art and wood as you review images and samples in writing from The Imagination Workshop and the "faces" gallery of "inner children from the trees."
• 2 - 3 p.m. "DRAW," Participate in "drawing together", a workshop of drawing using a step-by-step technique to capture your own interpretation of a set of cartoon art characters. These skills are then transferred to sketching works from the display.
• 3 - 4 p.m. "WRITE," Work on your own or in groups to compose poems, stories, plays or inspirations of any kind to ignite the feelings of these "inner children from the trees" with your own inner child.
• 4 -5 p.m. "TELL," Let the world around you hear, see, and feel what you have created. Bring video technology to record the legacies you have produced. All ages are welcome.
Cirque de Soleil to present "Dralion" in Duluth
DULUTH -- After 15 years performing around the world, Dralion will make its finale curtain call in January. From Nov. 26 to 30, the show will be in Duluth providing the opportunity to experience the colorful Cirque du Soleil signature production that has performed in more than 150 cities. Dralion will be presented at the Amsoil Arena for seven performances. Tickets for the general public will be available starting Friday at www.cirquedusoleil.com/dralion or by calling (800) 745-3000. Cost for adults is from $35 to $120, children from $28 to $102 and military, seniors and students from $31.50 to $81.
Arts and cultural heritage grant deadline
BEMIDJI -- Arts and cultural heritage grant application deadline is Aug. 14. Applications are available at the Region 2 Arts Council Office, 426 Bemidji Ave., Bemidji, MN 56601 or at http//r2arts.org. If you have applied in the past, you must download a new application form.
Grants are open to artists in all art disciplines, arts organizations, schools, non-profits, government offices, or cultural heritage groups located in one of the following Minnesota counties: Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, or Mahnomen. These grants support projects covering three key areas: arts activities and arts access, arts education, and arts and cultural heritage. Individual artists can apply for grants up to $3,000 and organizations can apply for grants up to $6,000.
Grant writing workshops will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 14 at the Region 2 Arts Council Office, 426 Bemidji Ave. N and July 22 at Coldwell Banker in Park Rapids.
