le Vent du Nord to perform at CLV
BEMIDJI -- Juno Award winning traditional band from Quebec, le Vent du Nord will perform 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at Salolampi, the Finnish Language Village, at Concordia Language Villages.
A French Canadian dinner will be served. Cost is $30 for adults and $20 for children younger than 14. Proceeds will support Schoolcraft students to attend summer French sessions at Lac du Bois or les Voyageurs.

Poetry reading with Richard Blanco at CLC
BRAINERD -- A poetry reading by Richard Blanco is set for noon Friday at Chalberg Theater at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, Minn.
Blanco is a Cuban-American poet who served as the inaugural poet during President Barack Obama's second inauguration in January of this year. Inaugural poets of the past include Robert Frost and Maya Angelou.
The event is free and open to the public.
History Center open for Shevlin celebration
SHEVLIN -- The Clearwater County History Center, 264 1st. St. W, will be open during Shevlin's Sawdust Dayz from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Center will host the Garden Show of the Shevlin Garden Club, which will start at 10 a.m.
"Tractors at the Museum" will also be held at the Clearwater County Historical Society at 10 a.m.
Admission is free. Lights refreshments will be available for a freewill donation.

Square dance lessons set
BEMIDJI -- First City Squares of Bemidji will host lessons 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 17 through Nov. 19 at the United Methodist Church, 902 Beltrami Ave. NW.
A Square Dance will be held 7:30 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 at the United Methodist Fellowship Hall,
Jim Lizakowski will be the caller and Rita Lizakowski will be cuing; plus tips for the first half hour. Visitors and spectators are welcome.

Gallery North to host Autumn Art Fest
BEMIDJI -- Gallery North invites area artists to participate in the Autumn Art Fest watercolor color contest with entries submitted during the last week of September.
A cash prize of $50 will be awarded to the winners of two categories: Best of Show, as judged by a team of Gallery North artists and People's Choice, voted for by gallery visitors during Oct.
There is a $5 entry fee and entries must be framed and no larger than 18 by 24 inches. Participants must be 18 and older. For more information, call 444-9813.
Fiction Guild seeks submissions for anthology
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Speculative Fiction Guild is interested in publishing speculative fiction from authors with connection to Bemidji for their first anthology, "Sword and Quill Vol. I."
They are seeking to publish short stories, between 500 and 7,500 words, that explore any topic from demon-hunting urban fantasy to hard science fiction and anything in between.
The guild is not interested in fan fiction or excessive violence, racism, abuse or political and religious proselytizing. Submissions must be submitted in manuscript format and only one story at a time. Reprints with prior publication history listed are acceptable.
Stories can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with name, title of the story and word count in the subject line. Also a short bio that explains the author's connection to Bemidji. Hard copies may be sent to Roy's Comics & Games, 210 3rd St. NW, Bemidji, MN 56601.
