Arndt O. Baker, 87, of Vergas, died on Friday, February 8, 2008 in the Perham Memorial Home.
Arndt Owen Baker was born the son of Harry and Emma (Hoffmann) Baker on June 23, 1920 in Candor Township, where he was raised and attended District 98 School. He worked on the family farm and when his parents moved to Barnesville, Arndt took over the farm and continued farming.
Arndt married Alvina Dahring on Aug. 1, 1943 in Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. They lived on the farm until 1953, when they moved to Vergas. That same year, Arndt bought his own semi, and worked for International Transport out of Fargo until 1960. He then began working in the construction trade eventually working on his own. Alvina died on Jan. 6, 1999. Arndt continued living in Vergas until he recently entered the Perham Memorial Home.
Arndt enjoyed woodworking, gardening, growing his own grapes for homemade wine, and making maple syrup.
Surviving Arndt are his two daughters, Joyce (Jack) Howe of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; Donna (Brian) Henrikson of St. Peters, Mo.; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Alvina; his parents; and two sisters, Minnie Rindahl and Elinor Collins.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas with the Rev. Robert Hinckley officiating. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
