To protect fish spawning areas, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials plan to close certain portions of a number of Minnesota waters to fishing. The closings are routine and based on local conditions.

Closings occur each year as ice-out begins and waters begin to warm.

Portions of waters closed to fishing also are posted at access sites and in other visible areas. Anglers may fish in areas that are not posted.

Among the area waters which will close beginning Monday, April 18, and will remain closed until May 13 are:

E Blackduck River from County Road 32 north to Red Lake Reservation boundary;

E Clearwater River from below the Clearwater dam and extending 900 feet;

E Mississippi River below the Ottertail Power Dam to Big Wolf Lake;

E Shotley Brook form State Highway 72 to Upper Red Lake;

E Tamarac River from Upper Red Lake upstream to Beltrami-Koochiching County line;

E Turtle River from below Three Island Lake dam to Turtle River Lake.
