AREA ROUNDUP: Adams sets hurdles record for N-K-B track, Blackduck softball now 7-0

NORTHOME — Logan Adams set a Northome-Kelliher-Blackduck school record in the 110 hurdles last week and finished second in the event at the Pequot Lakes Invitational. Adams completed the race in 17.84 and shattered the previous standard of 19.5 which was held by Tyler Dobmeier and Adams.

Adams also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (46.14) and was fifth in the triple jump (35-8).

Matt Jourdan cruised to a win in the 3200 with a time of 11:10.21 and joined Cameron Eckstrom, Adnew Steuven and Giizhik Wagner on the winning 4x800 relay unit (9:20.58).

Steuven was second in the mile (5:15.17), missing out on winning the race by only one-half second. Joseph Pfeifer set a personal best time of 5:27.24 and finished ninth.

Cal Roosdett won the 100 (11.64) and Eli Raher was sixth (11.90).

Adams added a sixth-place finish in the 400 (58.68) and Roosdett was fifth in the 200 (24.74).

The boys 4x100 relay team of King, Tyler Rosebear, Eli Rahier and Roosdett placed eighth (52.40) while the 4x400 quartet of Eckstrom, Steuven, Wagner and Adams was sixth (4:03.46).

The boys track and field team placed fifth of 11 teams with 50 points. International Falls won the event with 154.

In the girls division the Bulldogs also were fifth with 70 points. International Falls also claimed the girls meet with 110.5.

In the 4x800 Lindsey Duresky, Laechen Wagner, Kristi Mills and Christina Grundmeier combined for second place with their best run of the spring (10:43.08). The 4x100 relay unit of Brigette Williams, Rachel Fahey, Kezia Rahier and Michaela Williams was eighth (2:06.49) while Rahier, Fahey, Mills and Grundmeier was fourth (4:35.74).

Individually, Fahey was fourth in the shot (29-2) and in the discus (92-6), Wagner was sixth in the mile (6:16.99) and Grundmeier was third in the 200 and her time of 28.46 tied the Bulldogs record.

The Bagley-Fosston boys and girls teams were able to compete in the Park Rapids meet and another in Walker.

At Park Rapids the girls placed third with 101 points. Marissa Carlson won the mile and the 800, Ginla Balstad claimed the pole vault with a school record of 10-0 and the 4x200 relay team of Balstad, Karlee Ziermeier, Hayley George and Camille Merschman set the pace in 1:51.81.

The boys team was fifth and was led by the 4x200 relay team of Logan Thorson, Tyler Jackson, Landon Peterson and Walker Cage which won with a season-best time of 1:35.36.

The Flyers also had numerous athletes who placed, including seniors Thorson, Jackson and Alexi Bode.

At the meet in Walker the girls were second and were led by the three winning relay teams.

In the 4x200 Balstad, Elizabeth Olson, George and Merschman won in 1:51.55. Balstad, Jennifer Albright, Ziermeier and Abby Swanson also won the 4x100 (52.93) and the 4x400 relay quartet of Merschman, Emily Curfman, Swanson and Carlson also posted a victory (4:19.14).

Bagley-Fosston’s individual winners included Carlson in the mile (5:34.02) and the 800 (2:27.90) plus Balstad in the pole vault (8-6).

Albright was third in the 100 hurdles (18.11) and in the 300 hurdles (52.71). Her time in the 300 hurdles established a new Fosston record.

The boys team was sixth and Jackson had a hand in three event wins. He captured the 200 (23.70) and was a member of the winning 4x200 relay (1:35.37) and 4x100 relay (46.9). Joining him in the 4x200 were Thorson, Peterson and Cage while Peterson, Bode and Thorson teamed with Jackson in the 4x100.

SOFTBALL: Blackduck now 7-0

Blackduck’s softball team continued its winning ways last week when it defeated CL-B 22-11 and 19-5. Those wins upped Blackduck’s record to 7-0.

The Drakes will begin a homestand today against Littlefork-Big Falls. On Friday they will entertain Deer River and on Monday they will welcome Deer River.

Michaela Sparby has 13 RBIs while Breanna Enger and Kara Draeger each have 12. Enger’s .792 batting average leads the team and Taylor Levy is hitting at a .739 clip.

Bagley is finding wins difficult to come by as the Flyers dipped to 1-9 after Tuesday’s 21-7 loss to Norman County East.

On Tuesday they will head to Lake Park-Audubon for a doubleheader.

Laporte began its season with 24-2 and 17-4 losses to Pine River. The Wildcats will seek their initial win today at CL-B which is 0-4 after dropping the doubleheader to Blackduck.

Kelliher-Northome stopped Red Lake 26-13 and 14-13 on Tuesday to improve to 3-1 and will head to Lake of the Woods today and visit Remer on Friday. Red Lake dropped to 0-6 after the losses to the Mustangs.

BASEBALL: Drakes topple LOW

Jake Peterson belted a grand slam and the blast helped the Blackduck baseball team thump Lake of the Woods 17-1 Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader in Blackduck. The Drakes also claimed the rematch 14-5.

Tuesday’s wins upped Blackduck’s record to 3-1. Weather permitting, the Drakes will have a busy weekend as they are scheduled to host Cass Lake-Bena and Laporte today, head to Red Lake for a doubleheader on Friday and then travel to Crookston on Saturday to take on Red Lake County and Crookston.

Bagley is 4-2 after stopping Crookston 2-1 and Northome-Kelliher 11-1 in the past week. The Flyers are off until May 5 when they make the trip to Fosston.

Cass Lake-Bena finally was able to begin its season and the Panthers are 1-3. CL-B owns an 11-1 victory over Laporte but fell 9-2 at Nevis and was swept 26-1 and 14-1 by Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.

The Panthers will travel to Blackduck today and will host Laporte on Tuesday.

Northome-Kelliher is 1-4 after the loss to Bagley but the Mustangs will try to begin a winning streak today at home against WHA. On Friday they will host Lake of the Woods and Tuesday they will welcome Mahnomen in a doubleheader.

Red Lake is 0-2 after last week’s loss to Northome-Kelliher.
