Area golf courses open today
BEMIDJI -- The golf season in the Bemidji area officially began Monday as some of the courses opened for the season.
Among them was the Bemidji Town and Country Club and, according to club pro Rick Grand, the course wintered very well.
"The nice weather we had over the weekend dried the course very well and it is ready for play," Grand said. "It appears that the course came through the winter well.
"Because of the way we treat the greens and winterize the course, during the past 10 years it is rare to open a season with temporary greens and we don't have any temporaries this year," Grand continued. "The entire course is ready for play and we're excited to open the season."
Maple Ridge, Sandtrap and Greenwood also are open and are ready for play.
"We wintered very well," said Maple Ridge owner Jeff Zigan. "During the year we use different tees on and off and we will do that this week. But our greens are fine. Hopefully the weather the rest of the week will cooperate."
Sandtrap in Cass Lake also opened Monday and it also came through the winter in fine shape. Greenwood also is ready for play and its current hours are 7 a.m. to dusk.
