Arctic Cat, Polaris pioneer Hetteen dies
Edgar Hetteen, the snowmobile pioneer who helped the Arctic Cat and Polaris companies get their start, has died.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Hetteen died on Saturday at 90 years old. Hetteen had been living in Grand Rapids, Minn.
Hetteen co-founded Polaris Industries in 1954 in Roseau. He later founded Arctic Enterprises, now known as Arctic Cat, in Thief River Falls after leaving Polaris.
Hetteen retired in 2005 from ASV Inc., a rubber-tracked equipment company he co-founded near Grand Rapids.
The son of Swedish immigrants, Hetteen grew up on a farm near Roseau. He left school in the eighth grade and landed his first job in 1934 at the age of 14.
