Ann Daley/Pat Kroeplin PrimeTime column: Senior Center is site for BSU's new nursing practimum

This fall the BSU Department of Nursing is implementing a new practicum experience for senior nursing students.

The students will be in their practicum: Rural Community/Population Course. This course provides students with the opportunity to use the nursing process with a community/population as the client. The population at the Senior Center and those who come to the Senior Center will be the members. Students will learn from the members, identifying needs and implementing a health education focused on health promotion, attainment and preservation of optimal health. Students will experience the Senior Center and listen to seniors. The students will be accompanied by geriatric specialist Carolyn Townsend, a nurse and a faculty member. Wood carving class

If you missed out on the last wood carving classes, you will be happy to know that another class is being offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oc. 22. The cost of the class is $14 and will cover the cost of your materials. Each participant will learn how to carve a Santa Claus. Space is limited for this class, so please register and make your payment at the front desk of the Senior Center by Wednesday, Oct. 15. For more information please call Diane at 751-8836.
